Desperate Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Mardan
Due to the current emergency situation in the Province, Mardan Foundation (www.mardanfoundation.org) has focused on Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) by forming a special unit for collection and dissemination information, developing linkages with donors, distributing food, medicines and shelters. Dissemination of information is done through Mardan Information and Advice Center (MIAC) which is the only center in Mardan. (www.mardan.com)
Mardan Foundation is a Non-government registered organization working for the socio-economic uplift, education, and natural resources of Mardan through integrated approach. Mardan Foundation is also running Mardan Information and Advice Center (MIAC) which is aimed at providing the accurate and reliable information on different aspects of the people of Mardan ranging from education, environment, and development to culture and sports.
Mardan Foundation is a front-line organization to help the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) who are rushing to Mardan to save their lives.

Soft Image of Mardan
Mardan is the second major city of the Province.It has a great geographical, cultural and historical importance. A team of Pakistan Television Islamabad Centre visited Mardan to make documentary films. The team comprised of the Producer Rao Hasin Abrar, Camera man Umar Malik and Amanullah Baluch. The team was entertained by Muhammad Usman Mardanvi on behalf of Mardan Foundation.
The
filming lasted 7 days. Documentaries of Mardan included the
History, Archaeological sites, Mardan city, Bazaars, Museum, Health
facilities, Colleges, Universities, Agriculture, agricultural
machinery, land, irrigation, Sports, Handy Crafts, Food and local life.
Mr Mardanvi is a well known local archaeologist and a researcher. He provided a detailed interview on the historical background of Mardan, its importance in Gandhara History, Gandhara Art, architecture and also potential for tourism in Mardan.
More local support was provided by Friends of Mardan.com. Akbar Hoti organised folk music with volunteers playing the music instrument Rabab and Sitar. Amir Faisal facilitated the government officials and arranged interviews for PTV. Faisal Fareed and Yasir Ali Bacha were interviewed over the development of Information Technology in Mardan. Pir Nasir briefed the group on sports events in Mardan. Mr.Rahatullah Khan, the entrepreneur, talked about the agricultural potential in the district. The Nazim, Mr.Himayat ullah Mayar briefed the crew over the developments in the fields of communication, health, education, sanitation, sports, law and order.
The
crew visited different markets, restaurants, historical buildings,
Shahbaz Garha, Tulandai , Asota, Jamal Garhai, Takhtbai and other
places. The PTV crew thanked the people of Mardan and the team of
Mardan.Com for providing their full support in making the documentary
film. They enjoyed Pushtun hospitality and liked the famous Badayuni
Perras ( very delicious sweets ) and Mardan Chapli Kebab.
The people of Mardan hope that the documentary will be a true
reflection of their life and the region.

Yakey Az Maal- e- Ghanimat
The good news is that the police in Mardan have recovered 2 historical sculptures locally. These were found by the locals from illegal excavation of the historical sites. This type of excavation is still going on in broad daylight in some sites. The action of the police needs great admiration. They have done a good job. The people of Mardan are happy about this action. Many sculptures have disappeared in the past after being recovered. What is needed now is:
- Hand over these sculptures to Mardan museum.
- Declare these the property of Mardan museum.
- Decorate these in the shelves.
- Write a small note along with the history of sculptures. This note shall say Yakey Az Maal-e- Ghanimat. (This means that when you find something precious after a war).
